Processing a Payroll Late

If you miss your scheduled payroll input day, you can process your payroll. Here is what to expect.

Delivery

Delivery timelines will be adjusted based on the date your payroll is submitted. If payroll is submitted after your scheduled processing day, employee payments and payroll packages may be delayed.

If you have printed cheques included in your payroll, delivery of the cheque package may be impacted by the late submission.

Funding

Payment must be received based on the revised processing schedule. Depending on how late the payroll is submitted, expedited funding arrangements may be required.

Service Fees

To avoid late funding due to late processing, payroll must be submitted before 12:00 p.m. CST, two business days prior to the payment date. Payrolls submitted after this deadline will be subject to additional processing fees.

Payroll

To ensure employee direct deposits are received on the payment date, payroll should be submitted at least three business days prior to the payment date. If payroll is submitted with less than three business days' notice, Powerpay cannot guarantee that funds will be deposited into employees' accounts on the payment date, as deposit timing is dependent on individual financial institutions' processing schedules.

Employee payments may also be delayed if payroll is submitted after the required processing deadline. If payment dates change, employees should be notified as soon as possible. Late payroll processing may also limit the time available for stop payments.

Payroll submissions received before 8:00 p.m. EST (5:00 p.m. PST, 6:00 p.m. MST, 7:00 p.m. CST) on business days will be processed the same day. Payroll reports can be viewed in Powerpay within 3 to 4 hours of submission. Processing timelines for employee payments will depend on the selected payment method and submission date.

 

Note: To avoid future delays in payroll submission, review your payroll calendar for dates. Pay particular attention to submission dates around statutory holidays.
